Located in downtown Los Angeles, the Mark Taper Center / Inner City Arts is a privately funded, non-profit arts school serving over 8,000 inner-city youths. Designed in collaboration with Michael Maltzan Architects, the school provides supplemental art education for six Los Angeles Unified School District elementary schools.

11,000 square feet of existing warehouse and new construction creates a sense of community by setting the main buildings around a landscaped central courtyard. Defining this gathering area are classrooms for music, dance and drama. Skylights and floor-to-ceiling roll-up doors permit natural daylight into all the interiors.
