PROJECT

On a sloping site in East Hampton, New York, this home is designed to allow the occupants to enjoy the surrounding forest through views and outdoor living spaces. Horizontal roof planes extend beyond the building envelope, creating covered spaces for exterior living in inclement weather. Floor to ceiling glass and double height spaces accentuate the verticality of the forest.

SITE

The property lies on a hillside facing southeast in a deciduous forest.

DESIGN

Entry is from the top of the slope, beside a water feature. From the entrance, one descends into the living room for a soaring view of the forest.  Through glass window walls, the kitchen and dining room also provide expansive views of the tree canopy.  Flanking either side of these public rooms are two bedroom wings: one guest bedroom suite and one children’s wing. From the main level, one can also access the exterior pool and pool deck.

On the upper level, the master bedroom suite opens onto an outdoor terrace. On the lower level, there is a spa, game room, wine room and media room. Exterior materials include stone cladding and windows and doors framed in anodized aluminum.

PHASE

The home is currently in construction and scheduled for completion in June of 2011.
