PROJECT
Located on Cape Cod Bay in Brewster Massachusetts, the client requested a protective, womb-like residence on the site of his childhood home. Amidst a landscape of color that changes every season, the home appears to emerge from the earth and fold back into it, suggesting impermanence.
SITE
Stretched wide across a hillside, the residence overlooks a brackish pond in the foreground and views of Cape Cod Bay beyond.
DESIGN
Grassy roof planes gently touch the earth. The massing is protective while providing views of the water. Exterior materials include cedar siding, plaster, and windows and doors framed in dark anodized aluminum. Three bedrooms cluster around a central, great room with a large fireplace, kitchen, dining room and living area. Facing the Bay, patios and balconies extend the living space out into the landscape. Skylights and floor to ceiling glass infuse the home with natural light.
PHASE
Construction is scheduled for completion in 2011.
