The Ward Residence landscape sought to maximize the available, level outdoor space while providing a textural backdrop to the lap pool and courtyard. The central courtyard is defined by the arrangement of structures on the site. The lightness with which the house appears to float above the landscape is emphasized by the closely planted ferns and grasses.

High and low solid block walls on the perimeter of the courtyard mimic the vertical wall elements integrated into the house. Planting between the vertical elements and around the lap pool extend the visual depth of field, effortlessly blending the garden into the foliage beyond.
