Located near the oceanfront in Santa Monica, California, Richard Neutra’s Sten-Frenke House was originally built in 1934. Neutra emphasized the relationship between the building and the surrounding landscape. Seamless indoor-outdoor living was further reinforced by incorporating patios, terraces roofs into the design.

A collaboration between Marmol Radziner and design firm Pentagram, the team intervened only where necessary to return the home to Neutra’s original design intent. During the project, original documentation was referenced while the house was sensitively adapted to contemporary living.
